Saint Óscar Romero was “A visionary who knew how to occasionally glimpse what Pope Francis has promoted about ‘integral ecology'” (Rafael Moreno Villa, SJ):

“You know yourselves that the air and the water and everything we humans touch are contaminated. Even though we keep polluting nature more and more, we still need it to live. We fail to understand that we have a commitment with God to care for nature. We cut down trees, and we waste water even when there is such a water shortage. We don’t care about the foul-smelling fumes from the buses that are poisoning our environment. We don’t care about where garbage is being burned. All these matters have to do with our covenant with God” (homily of March 11, 1979).
