This initiative is inspired by the leadership of Pope Francis, drawing from his message of integral ecology and his platform for the implementation of the Laudato Si’ Goals. Our purpose is to empower ecological spirituality as well as participation and action at the individual and community levels.
As Franciscans, we have joined this great initiative through the JPIC Office. Let us recall that on the fifth anniversary of the Encyclical, the JPIC offices of the Order and the Franciscan Family joined the “Laudato Si’ Revolution” campaign by carrying out various national, regional and international initiatives.
The goal was to deepen the challenge that Pope Francis has made to all Christians, but especially to us Franciscans, with his encyclical Laudato si’. We thought that it could be a further way to deepen the focus in the initial formation program on the themes of justice, peace and integrity of creation, as the Ratio formationis of the Order envisions.
September 1 is the World Day of Prayer for Care of Creation and the first day of the Season of Creation. As part of the Laudato Si’ Revolution, a global Franciscan campaign for integral and ecological conversion, the JPIC Office celebrates this year’s World Day of Prayer for Care of Creation with the newly released RAP SONG, “Laudato Si’ Revolution” by Br. Sandesh Manuel, OFM.
The Season of Creation is approaching — it begins on September 1st 2020, which marks the World Day of Prayer for Care of Creation, and continues until October 4th, the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi, Patron Saint of Ecology and Ecologists. Many Christians join in this special time to reflect, pray, and implement concrete activities that will lead humanity towards a lifestyle of solidarity that cares for our Common Home.
HOMILY OF THE MINISTER GENERAL FOR THE FEAST OF THE PARDON OF ASSISI
“Praised be You, my Lord, who with all Your creatures,
especially Sir Brother Sun…, through Sister Moon and the stars…
Praised be You, my Lord, through Brother Wind,…Sister Water,…Brother Fire,…
Sister Mother Earth, who sustains and governs us…
Praised be you, my Lord, through those who give pardon for Your love,
and bear infirmity and tribulations.”
We need to create a new culture, a new civilization that gives full respect to the infinite Love and Goodness of God in Creation. Only then will we be able to sing together with St. Francis of Assisi and St. Bonaventure ‘Praised be the Lord of Creation
Integral ecological conversion is one of the proposals made by the Pope in his letter, since the problems are not presented in an isolated way, but are interconnected. An integral conversion should encompass, among other things, the political, social, environmental and economic aspects.
The liturgy garnered a 150 thousand viewership both live and replay. It was followed by the Laudato Si Serenade Concert, featuring the different talents of the different congregations present in the Philippines including our very own OFM friars and some local singer celebrities.
