Promoted by the Interfranciscan Service for Justice, Peace and Ecology (SINFRAJUPE) of Brazil and the Luciano Mendes de Almeida Socio-Environmental Justice Observatory (OLMA), the song “Laudato Si'” was born to contribute to the Laudato Si’ Revolution Campaign of the Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation Service of the Order of Friars Minor. Launched in October 2020, the song was meant to be an invitation to listen to the cry of the earth and the poor.
According to the composer, the song was constructed by contemplating the rhythmic, cultural and ancestral aspects of our peoples. “In the song we explore the elements of nature, with a swaying and indigenist rhythm. To make us understand this cry of the earth and the cry of the people”.
The lyrics invite us to think about the revolution that does not happen overnight, but silently. The melody, on the other hand, presents a more restrained and quiet musical style that explores the sounds of nature. Thus, lyrics and music together want to show that the revolution of Laudato Si’ happens silently, like the birth of a tree, of a seed in the forest that sprouts in silence. The music was intended to be an invitation to ecological conversion and also to acts that occur on a daily and ordinary basis. With a steady marching rhythm, it reveals that the Laudato Si’ Revolution cannot be something very sudden, instantaneous, but occurs harmoniously.
